Recommended Art Materials (But Feel Free to Adapt) You don’t need to make a big investment at the start. If you are just beginning to paint, inexpensive materials are more than enough to get started. ✅ You can paint on: Watercolor paper Canvas Stretched boards Cardboard ✅ Brushes (you don’t need them all — just some basics): Flat brush 1 to 1.5 inches Flat brush 1/4 to 3/8 inches Small round brush for details Optional: angled brush 3/8 inches ✅ Paint: Acrylic (recommended) Watercolor Gouache ✅ Other materials: Jar of water Sponge or cloth to clean the brush during class Plate, paper plate, acrylic palette, or paper palette With each video, we include a materials list and reference links.

Meet Bruce - Artist, Teacher and Co-Founder of Arte Bar
Who We Are
(And why this isn’t just another monthly painting club)
We’re Alisa and Bruce, husband and wife of 30 years. In 2017, we moved to Barcelona Spain and opened Arte Bar, the first paint and wine studio of its kind in Spain. What started as an idea to make painting more fun and approachable has been our passion and focus.
But our story goes back further than that.
In 1999, we opened Art Works, a fine art school in Los Angeles, California where we taught the fundamentals of painting and drawing to kids ages 6 to 17. We ran it for 10 years, helping hundreds of young artists build skills and confidence through hands-on teaching and strong foundational techniques.
Then in 2010 we moved to southwest France and started Raison d’Art, a fine art summer camp for teens in southwest France. We operated Raison d'Art until 2017.
In 2017, we decided it was time for a new chapter. We moved to Barcelona and opened Arte Bar, bringing with us everything we’d learned over 17 years , a love for art, top notch instruction, excellent customer service, and a commitment to creating an experience people genuinely enjoy and remember.
Then came lockdown in 2020. For three months, our studio was closed, so we moved everything online and people from all over the world joined us from their kitchens, patios, and living rooms.
When the world opened back up, we paused the online classes. But now, we’re realizing something: People still want to learn. They just want to do it on their own time, in their own space.
So now, we’re bringing it back with our Painting of the Month Club, a painting class when it works for you, wherever you are, with the same care, guidance, experience and encouraging teaching style we’re known for at Arte Bar.
What it’s like to learn with me
Most people who come to my classes have never painted before. The first thing they usually say is, “I don’t think I can do this.”
But after a few hours, they’ve created something they’re really proud of and are already asking what the next painting will be.
I have refined how to simplify each step in a clear, accessible, and enjoyable way. I will accompany you throughout the entire process, guiding you with clear explanations but leaving space for you to add your personal touch and make the painting truly yours.
This is not a quick YouTube tutorial. These are real classes, recorded in our studio, where I guide you from start to finish of each painting. You can go at your own pace, and throughout the video, you will receive tips and techniques to help you improve.
